Subject: Second Language Writing at CCCC 2001

Second language writing seems to have become a legitimate area of
inquiry within composition studies, as evidenced by a growing number
of sessions related to this topic at this year's Conference on College
Composition and Communication (CCCC) Annual Convention.

Many of the papers and panels on ESL are indexed on page 28 of CCCC
2001 program book. In addition, there will be a number of special
events related to second language writing:

- ----------------
Wednesday 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
MW.1. Responding to Second Language Writers in the Classroom:
Foundations and Guidelines
(Plaza Court 2, Plaza Building, Concourse Level)

- ----------------
Wednesday 1:30-5 p.m.
AW.1. A Question of 'Double Standards'?: Assessing Second Language
Writers in Higher Education
(Plaza Court 2, Plaza Building, Concourse Level)

- ----------------
Thursday 6:45 - 7:45 p.m.
S1.13. Special Interest Group on Second Language Writing: Integrating
L2 Issues into CCCC
(Tower Court B, Tower Building, Second Level)

Joy Reid, former president of TESOL and author of TEACHING ESL WRITING
(Regents/Prentice Hall, 1993) will discuss the relationship between
CCCC and TESOL.

Also at this meeting, Paul Kei Matsuda will present and discuss the
CCCC Statement on Second Language Writing and Writers, which has
recently been adopted by CCCC and endorsed by TESOL.

- ----------------
Saturday 9:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Second Language Writing Committee Open Meeting
(Governor's 16, Plaza Building, Concourse Level)

This meeting is open to all CCCC members. Participants will discuss
and plan second language writing panels, workshops and SIG meeting for
CCCC 2002. This will also be a great opportunity to network with
others with interest in second language writing issues.
