I'm undertaking research into politeness issues (in particular, requests,
apologies and refusals) with a focus on Spanish learners of English. The
study examines the proficiency with which advanced level English learners
are able to identify when and exactly how it is appropriate to perform such
speech acts, the problems that might result from transfer from their L1, and
any other factors causing difficulties. Any suggestions, or information
relating to previous
research would be very helpful. Thanks. Jacqueline
