Job: Natural Language Engineer

Task Description

Cymfony, located in suburban Buffalo, NY is a leader in technology
pertaining to information extraction and discovery. Cymfony offers
several applications based on this technology, including the recently
announced Brand Dashboard. We have an immediate opening for a natural
language engineer.

This person will primarily be responsible for developing porting
methodology to adapt CymfonyâEuro(tm)s information extraction engine,
InfoXtract, to new domains such as law and medicine. This requires
porting the Named Entity (NE) tagger, as well as relationship and
event detection. Porting to a new domain will involve developing new
grammars and statistical models. Cymfony has developed the
machine-learning tools that are required for this effort. This
position entails application of these techniques for the specific
problem of domain porting.

This is a hands-on position and will require considerable coding. The
position also involves thorough benchmarking of results and
documentation of processes.

This individual will work directly with the VP for NLP at Cymfony.
Close interaction with the team leader for machine learning technology
will be required. In addition, interaction with the grammar writers
will also be necessary. This is an opportunity to work with a highly
skilled team developing cutting edge technology in information
extraction and machine learning.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Masters degree in
Computer Science, although a PhD is preferred. Experience in
computational linguistics, both academic and work related is required.
Specifically, experience in natural language parsing, statistical
parsing and machine learning techniques is required. Experience with
lexicon/ontology design is a plus. At least three years of work
experience developing NLP applications such as information extraction,
speech recognition or machine translation is required. The candidate
must have excellent coding skills in C++ and be well versed in
object-oriented programming.

Responsibilities

Port named entity tagger and/or relationship/event detection to new
domains by utilizing results from both (i) training on corpora and (ii)
automatic glossary/ontology acquisition
Benchmark results for new domain
Develop and document methodology for domain porting

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. US
permanent residents and Canadian citizens are also encouraged to
apply. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Cymfony offers an attractive benefits package. The position is based
in our Williamsville, NY location.

Qualified candidates should send their CV to:
