We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: Spanish Wh-islands

Dear linguists,

I have a query regarding Spanish wh-islands which I hope
some native speakers of Spanish can help me with.

Is there any contrast in acceptability with respect to
wh-island effects between (1) and (2)? In (1), the verb
"know/remember" is used while in (2), the verb "wonder"
is used:

(1) a. Qué libro sabes/recuerdas [por qué Luis compró]?
Which book do you know/remember [why Luis bought]?
    b. Qué diccionario sabes/recuerdas [cuándo Luis compró]?
Which dictionary do you know/remember [when Luis
       bought]?
(2) a. Qué libro te preguntas [(que) por qué Luis compró]?
Which book do you wonder [why Luis bought]?
    b. Qué diccionario te preguntas [(que) cuándo Luis
       compró]?
Which dictionary do you wonder [when Luis
       bought]?

Thanks a lot. I will be glad to post a summary if
there are enough responses.

Subject: Multi-modal annotation schemes

Dear Linguists,

I am currently doing a survey of existing annotation schemes for
multimodality. Is anybody of you aware of annotation schemes that
correlate (aspects of) non-verbal behaviour (lip movement, body
posture, gaze, etc.) with speech? I will summarize all responses.

Thanks,

Claudia Soria
