PROGRAM DIRECTOR: DEVELOPMENTAL AND LEARNING SCIENCES

ANNOUNCEMENT NO:  E20010249A  OPEN:  09/04/2001  CLOSE:  11/01/2001

The National Science Foundation is seeking applicants for the position
of Program Director for Developmental and Learning Sciences.  The
closing date for this solicitation has been extended to November 1,
2001. This is a permanent position. This position is outside the
competitive civil service.

POSITION VACANT:  Psychologist (Program Director), AD-180-4.
Annual salary ranges from $74,697 to $116,414.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is in the Division of
Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences, Developmental and Learning Sciences
Program. The Program Director is responsible for long-range planning
and budget development for the area of child/developmental and
learning sciences, the administration of the merit review process and
proposal recommendations, the supervision of the Children's Research
Initiative, the preparation of press releases, feature articles and
material describing advances in the research supported, and
coordination and liaison with other programs in the National Science
Foundation (NSF), other Federal agencies and organizations.  Six or
more years of research experience beyond the Ph.D. are required for
appointment asProgram Director. Salary is negotiable, and is
comparable with academic salaries at major U.S. institutions.

The National Science Foundation is located in Arlington, Virginia,
immediately across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The
metropolitan Washington area, besides being the seat of the U.S.
Government, is noted as a cultural center and as a growing center of
high-technology industry. A wide variety of housing is available
within close proximity to the NSF offices.
