             January 15-17, 2002

jointly organized by Centre for Linguistics, Leiden University, The
Netherlands and School of Language Sciences, Central Institute of
English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), Hyderabad

The conference will be held from 15th to 17th January 2002 at CIEFL,
Hyderabad.

Keynote Speaker: Paul Kiparsky, Stanford University
(Prof. Kiparsky  will deliver a series of three lectures on Paninian Grammar)

The conference is organized as follows:

January 15		Issues in Syntax and Semantics
Guest Speaker:	Richard Kayne 	New York University (to be confirmed)

January 16:		Issues in Phonology and Morphology
Guest Speaker:	John J.McCarthy, UMass, Amherst	(confirmed)

January 17: 		Functional Perspectives on Language
Guest Speaker:	Rober van Valin Jr, SUNY Buffalo (to be confirmed)

The conference will bring together linguists from four continents -
Europe, Asia, Australia and America - and will be a forum for
presenting exciting new work in the areas of syntax, semantics,
morphology, phonology, phonetics and functional perspectives on
language. We hope to give each speaker between 30-45 minutes for
presentation followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and interaction
(the guest speakers will be given 45 minutes followed by 15 minutes
for discussion). Apart from guest speakers, there will be refereed
papers for which we invite abstracts.  Ten copies of an anonymous
abstract of maximum two pages on A 4 size paper with at least 12 point
font (with SIL IPA symbols if necessary) accompanied by a card giving
the title of the paper, name, affiliation and address of the author
(including email address for further communication) and the session
for which it is intended should be sent to the following to reach by
