NEW REFLECTIONS ON GRAMMATICALIZATION 2
SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

The second international New Reflections on Grammaticalization conference
will be held at the University of Amsterdam, April 4-6, 2002. Keynote
speakers are Martin Haspelmath, Brian Joseph and Richard Janda. Scholars
are invited to submit abstracts for 40-minute papers (including 10 minute
discussion time) on current topics in grammaticalization studies. Case
studies examining the implications of particular data for theoretical
issues are particularly welcome. Deadline for abstracts is NOVEMBER 1,
2001. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by January 1, 2002.
Conference registration is 100 Euro until March 1, 2002. Late
registration is 120 Euro.

For preliminary registration, send an e-mail message to the address
below. If you wish to present a paper, please provide us with a
provisional title. Once you have registered, you will receive the second
circular containing the registration form and information on the
preliminary programme, submission of abstracts, payment of fees, travel
to Amsterdam and accommodation. For more information you may also visit

Professional Communication (WEFLA) April 17-19, 2002, Holguin, Cuba

A biennial conference bringing together university language teachers
from all parts of Cuba and from countries such as Brazil, England,
Panama and Canada.

CALL FOR PAPERS AND REGISTRATION DETAILS

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Holguin, Cuba, in
collaboration with the Faculty of Continuing Education of the
University of Calgary, Canada, announces the Third International
Workshop on Foreign Language Teaching and Professional Communication
(WEFLA 2002) to be held in Holguin, Cuba from April 17-19, 2002.

AIMS:

* To promote sharing experiences in foreign language teaching.

* To foster exchanging experiences about the teaching of Spanish as a

Your registration form should be sent together with an abstract of
your paper to Prof. Vilma Piez, copy to Dr. M.L. Kaitting before
February 15, 2002.

Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in
participating in any of the pre-conference courses. Each course will
be a total of 10 hours and the registration fee is $10 US per course.

A certificate of completion will be awarded for these courses and for
the Conference. See our second call for further details on these
courses.

Participants: $80 USD; Retired $60 USD; Students $40 USD

This can be paid on your arrival at the workshop. Early registration,
before Dec. 15, 2001, qualifies for a 25% discount.

TRAVELLING TO CUBA

UniversiTUR is Cuba's University Travel Agency, dedicated to
facilitating travel which pertains to scientific activities,
specialised visits and international academic events.

The best way to travel to Holguin is by plane. Check with your travel
agent to see if you can get an international charter directly to
Holguin. If you are flying via Havana you may have to stay overnight
in Havana.

Foreigners pay for everything in Cuba in American dollars. Either cash
or credit cards are accepted. Travellers Cheques issued in the US are
not accepted (for example American Express). If your university wishes
to transfer funds directly to the University of Holguin, please
contact Lic. Arturo Leyva.

Our weather in April is wonderful, ranging from 22 to 28 degrees
Celsius (74 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit). We are close to the world
famous resort of Guardalavaca which has one of the most beautiful
unspoiled beaches in Cuba.
