We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Dear subscribers,

I've just begun to work at my dissertation that will be an analysis of the
visualisation of information in (and for) a learner's dictionary - that is
of the pictures that are included in the dictionaries and which help the
reader to understand the meaning of a word - and of the theories that
underlie such practice.
I'd be very grateful for any information (i.e.: bibliographical references
on the subject, current lexicographic or even dydactic projects that are
concerned with this theme etc.).

I thank you all in advance!
With best regards,
Chiara Vettori

Dear Linguists,

I just read a short article mentioning studies that show that, with
special training, Japanese speakers can distinguish and produce English
[r] & [l] sounds. Has anybody heard of these studies? and what the special
 training is?

Thanks in advance; I'll post a summary, of course.

James
