outstanding contributions to the formal analysis of human cognition.
This prize was created by the Glushko-Samuelson Foundation to honor
David E. Rumelhart, a Cognitive Scientist who exploited a wide range
of formal methods to address issues and topics in Cognitive Science.
Dr. Joshi will receive his award and give a talk at the 25th annual
meeting of the Cognitive Science Society in Boston, MA in August of
2003.

Subject: Words for the apple

The apple is the most widely cultivated fruit, with a world-wide
distribution across the northern and southern temperate zones. Apples
were eaten by the earliest Europeans; varieties were recognised more
than 2000 years ago.

Given this, it is of interest to explore the range of names for this
common fruit. The list at http://www.percepp.demon.co.uk/apple.htm
contains words from 46 languages.

Corrections particularly and any additions are invited.
