Description:

Educational Testing Service has several junior- to senior -level
Research Scientist openings in the Center for Higher Education, part
of the Research & Development Division. These positions offer exciting
opportunities for researchers interested in the expanding area of
English Language Assessment (ELA). ETS's TOEFL (Test of English as a
Foreign Language) program is the premier English-as-a-second-language
assessment in the world, used by undergraduate and graduate
institutions worldwide.  The services this program offers are
evolving, as we move towards assessments that are more informative and
that support the learning of English. Research in support of ELA in
contexts other than higher education, such as K-12 education and the
workplace, will also be conducted. Research opportunities are varied
and may include the development and validation of new kinds of
measures, investigations of new assessment capabilities, and studies
of the role of ELA in classroom contexts.  Suc!  cessful applicants
will have the opportunity and support to develop and implement a
comprehensive long-term research agenda in ELA.

* A Ph.D. in applied linguistics or an allied field, with an emphasis
on the assessment of language proficiency.
* Documented interest in research specifically on the topic of
measuring language proficiency.
* The ability to conduct research studies, excellent writing and oral
skills, and expertise in either quantitative or qualitative research
methods.
