Description:

Educational Testing Service is seeking to hire an accomplished
researcher with expertise in English language assessment for the
Research and Development Division.  ETS has begun an aggressive
program of research and development of formative assessment products
for K-12 and is seeking competent individuals with a background in
assessment, instruction, and teaching to take the lead in these
efforts.  Research in English language acquisition and assessment is
fundamental for developing products that link testing and instruction
in the classroom.  A candidate for this position should also have a
research background in the acquisition of English by K-12 students for
whom English is a new or second language.

A researcher in this position would be expected to support the ETS
business units by planning and implementing research and development
of a number of formative assessment products for K-12 students,
parents, and teachers.  The position will include the following
activities:

1) developing evidence-centered methods to link assessments to
standards, 2) carrying out pioneering research in formative assessment
and teacher professional development, and 3) conducting pilot and
field studies for assessment prototypes.

* A Ph.D. in cognitive science, learning, teacher development, or
psychology that includes a strong background in assessing English
language acquisition by K-12 students for whom English is a new or
second language.
* Documented interest in research, specifically on the topics relating
to the assessment of English language acquistion.
* A special interest in development of innovative formative assessment
methods is especially welcome.
* Experience in the areas of assessment or instructional design is
very desirable.
