Dear LINGUIST,

Some time ago I asked if somebody could help me with a basic
bibliography on "insults" (Linguist 13.2997) (for a student of mine
who was willing to write her thesis on this topic). To my great
surprise, I discovered that this is a very rich field: there a
specific journal, called ...'Maledicta' and there is even a Congress
to be organized on the topic (Dominique Lagorgette).

I always liked the habit of LINGUIST to publish the results of the
queries, and here is the bibliography I collected.

(NOTA BENE: the bibliography is NOT accurate: there are question
marks, incomplete data, I did not check whether any item is 100
relevant, I did not try to make a distinction between different speech
acts such as insulting or cursing, etc. but nevertheless I thought it
may be a useful starting point for those who would like to learn
something more about this particular kind of ...art!).

Many, many thanks to the colleagues that answered to my
query: first of all

Dominque Lagorgette and Francisco Yus, whose bibliographical
information on the topic is vaste.

But my thanks also go to Clyde Hankey, Pierre Pica, Ole Sig Andersen,
Lorenzo Coveri, Gaetano Berruto, Piermarco Bertinetto, May Kuha,
Cristiana Caronna, Pete Unseth, P.Kaszubski, Donald Stahl (hoping not
to forget anybody).

With my regards (and gratitude to LINGUIST),
