ATTENTION POST-GRADUATE STUDENTS

The North West Centre for Linguistics is delighted to announce that
the 3rd Research Training Programme will be held from the 7-11 April
2003, at the University of Manchester.

***One week of courses in theoretical and applied linguistics and
research methdology for postgraduate students***

Including week long courses on:

- Logic and Meaning (Payne, Manchester),
- Non-truth conditional semantics (Blakemore, Salford),
- Sociolinguistics (team course, see website).

Also includes afternoon sessions on:
- Analysing spoken and written corpora (Corrigan, Newcastle),
- Dealing with informants (Anderson, Manchester)
- Conference Skills (team course)
- Key terms in linguistics: modularity (Carston, UCL)
- History of linguistics (Vincent, Manchester)


There are also a number of other events planned during the course of
the Programme:

- The Programme will include a student poster session, which will be
held on the Tuesday evening.  There will be two prizes (of 50UKP) for
the best posters.

- There will be a Programme Dinner, in Manchester restaurant, on the
Thursday evening.

- The NWCL Annual lecture coincides with the first day of the course
(the 7th April, at 5.30pm).  The guest speaker is Professor Ralph
Fasold (Univeristy of Georgetown) who will be giving a lecture
entitled "There is only one language."  The lecture is open to all,
and is not restricted to those people attending the NWCL Research
Training Workshop.  See the NWCL website for further information

SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE
There is a limited amount of sponsorship available from Philsoc, the
LAGB and BAAL for students from UK institutions, to cover costs of
travel and accommodation.  Please see the website for further
information.  Please note the deadline for applications for
sponsorship is 31 January 2003.


REGISTRATION
Deadline for registration: FRIDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2003
The Programme will be limited to 50 students, so do not miss the
deadline for registration.

FEES
For students from NWCL institutions:
Whole course (full week): 20UKP
Afternoon session (per session): 3.50UKP

For students from other institutions:
Whole course (full week): 25UKP
Afternoon session (per session): 5UKP
