The Board of the Research Committee on Sociolinguistics (RC25 of the
International Sociological Association) is pleased to announce the
launch of its new website. Please visit us at:

http://staff.hum.ku.dk/smo/smo2/rc25-home.htm

RC25 is a worldwide, multilingual and multidisciplinary community,
whose members work together to explore the areas of common interest
within the broadest definition of sociolinguistics. We are fully aware
of the theoretical and methodological issues which separate the
various disciplines within which we work, but we find richness in the
diversity of perspectives.

Our objectives are:

*To provide an international forum for researchers working on issues
of language and society, irrespective of their theoretical and
methodological approach
*To circulate information about advances in
sociolinguistics, whether in sociology or in other disciplines,
through the creation of a clearinghouse of information located on the
RC25 website; and
*To promote cooperation and collaboration among
researchers worldwide, both through the organization of conferences
and the posting of notices by scholars seeking research partners.

One way we will be working towards our objectives is through our
website. There you will find information there on how to join our
Research Committee, the services we offer to members, and a portion of
our first electronic newsletter (you can gain access to the entire
newsletter if you join RC25). We have already started compiling
information on conferences and other events, publications, book
reviews, on-line corpora, research projects, and such for our online
information clearinghouse and will be counting on our members to help
keep us informed of activities worldwide.

We hope you will take the time to look at our website (and pass the
word to your friends and colleagues). If your interests complement
ours, we look forward to hearing from you.
