We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: Publisher's breach of contract

Fellow linguists,

It has come to light that for more than 5 years now a number of us
scholars who have published books with a major European publisher,
have not received a single penny in royalties, in violation of the
contracts that we signed with the publisher.

Also in violation of our contracts, the publisher has often sent
no more than one copy of our books to a journal for review.

When confronted with these facts, the publisher has typically claimed
that books got lost in the mail or that reviewers got lazy and
chose to keep books without ever reviewing them, or that contracts
got lost when the company changed addresses.

We are writing to find out if others have had similar experiences with
this and/or other publishers. If you have, please reply off-list to
me personally and I will post a summary without mentioning anyone by
name.

Thank you,

Gary H. Toops
Professor

Dear colleagues, could you send me the data of the frequency of Korean
phonemes? It is very interesting to notice that some languages like
French, Czech, Dutch or Hungarian have many phonemic counts which are
reliable. I found no such counts for many other languages, among them
Danish, Yidish, Afrikaans, Chinese, Korean, etc.

I'm looking forward to receiving your comments to my e-mail address
yutamb at hotmail.com

Remain yours sincerely,

 Yuri Tambovtsev
