Research Assistant / Ph. D. student

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Leipzig invites
applications for a half-time Research Assistant position (19 hours/week), to
begin April 1, 2002, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is
offered for one year, but can be extended for one or two more years.

The successful candidate must have an M.A or equivalent in hand. Apart from
engaging in his or her own dissertational research, the successful candidate
will contribute to research in the typological research program AUTOTYP
(http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~autotyp). In addition, there are
opportunities to teach courses under supervision.

The ideal candidate will have experience with typological data collection
and/or fieldwork. Knowledge of statistical methods and/or database
technology are additional advantages.

Candidates are requested to send a CV, statement of research interests, two
letters of recommendation and an abstract of their MA thesis (max. 2 pages)
(or another sample of written work) to:
