Subject:       mla language and society call for papers

Call for Papers: MLA Division of Language and Society. The Division on
Language and Society seeks papers on any appropriate topic, and has
special interest in these areas: minority languages and language
varieties; linguistic variety and its representation in literature and
popular media; language legislation and linguistic rights.

The MLA conference will be held December 27-30, 2002, in New York
City. To present at the conference you must be an MLA member by June
1.

Please send topic and brief abstract by March 15 to Dennis Baron,
debaron at uiuc.edu. Or by snail mail to Department of English, Univ. of

This two day seminar aims:
- To provide an appropriate forum for discussing and exploring some of
the relationships between language, love, and sexuality across
languages, cultures, and disciplines
- To discuss and explore, through language, the plurality of meanings
and expressions of love and sexual identities
- To bring together various disciplines working in these areas and to
promote collaborative interdisciplinary study in the area of language,
love, sexuality, and sexual relationships
