POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN SPEECH SCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND,
BALTIMORE

The Vocal Tract Visualization Laboratory is pleased to announce the
availability of up to two new NIH Postoctoral Traneeships in Speech
Science.  The Vocal Tract Visualization Laboratory is a biomedically
oriented laboratory studying vocal tract and tongue activity during
speech and swallowing (see also http://speech.umaryland.edu).  The
laboratory is based at the University of Maryland Dental School, in
the Departments of Oral and Craniofacial Biology, and Orthodontics.
Collaboration is also done at a number of neighboring laboratories at
the University of Maryland Medical School and School of Engineering,
the University of Delaware Dept of Computer and Information Systems,
and the Johns Hopkins University School of Engineering.  These
collaborations ensure access to a variety of research facilities and a
diverse intellectual atmosphere.

The potential fields of study are flexible and include the general
areas of vocal tract physiology, oral-pharyngeal motor control,
instrumentation development, speech production and swallowing.  We
expect the trainee will work with us on some of our current grant
supported research, and develop his or her own original research as
well.  The preferred candidate should have a background in anatomy and
physiology of the head and neck, linguistics, cognitive science,
speech science, or related fields, and strong analytical skills.
Trainee salaries are consistent with current NIH guidelines, and
include a modest travel allowance.

The positions will begin in 2002, with a flexible start date.  Please
