4th International Conference on Interpreting in the
Community

The Critical Link 4
"Professionalisation of interpreting in the community"

May 20-23, 2004
Stockholm University
Sweden

Conference website: http://www.tolk.su.se/CL2004

Content and purpose

For a new profession, the issue of professionalisation is of vital importa=
nce.
This has also been reflected in many contributions to the former Critical
Link conferences (http://www.criticallink.org). By making
professionalisation the explicit topic of Critical Link 4, we wish to give=
 a
decisive impetus to the ongoing processes towards this goal world-wide.

Subtopics will include:
* interpreters' professional standards and their evaluation
* interpreters' labour market and working conditions
* aspects of interpreter training
* research on community interpreting and sign language interpreting
* the role of the professional organisations, etc.

An important goal is to emphasise the links between different kinds of
interpreters (for example community interpreters and sign language
interpreters) who are very often trained in different programmes and
organised in different professional organisations. We hope this will lead =
to
mutual consciousness-raising and new forms of co-operation.

We are looking for presenters and presentations covering a wide range of
areas, both geographically and thematically, to allow for a comprehensive
and all-round overview and analysis of the conference topic. In addition t=
o
individual papers, there will be poster sessions, workshops and exhibition=
s.

Important dates
* Autumn 2002 - Call for papers
* March 31st, 2003 - deadline for proposals for panels, workshops and
exhibitions
* March 31st, 2003 - deadline for submission of abstracts for individual
papers and posters
