Georgia State University's Department of Applied Linguistics/ESL is
accepting applications for two tenure-track positions at the assistant
professor or associate professor levels.  The Department houses a well
established M.A. program focused on the development of ESL/EFL
teachers and is initiating a new Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics
that will begin in fall, 2002.  We are looking for new faculty who
will grow with us and assist in strengthening and expanding the
Ph.D. program.  Responsibilities of this position involve conducting
research, mentoring students, and teaching courses in the department's
graduate programs, two ESL units, and an undergraduate program in
language studies.

Successful candidates will have completed a doctorate in applied
linguistics or a closely related field by the time the appointment
begins.  Candidates are sought who specialize in one of the four
disciplinary areas included in the Ph.D. program: (1) Research
methods, (2) Language analysis, (3) Language, Cognition, &
Communication, and (4) Language Teaching & Teacher Development.
Though the following is not an exhaustive list, some specializations
of particular interest include second language acquisition,
psycholinguistics, second language testing, written discourse
analysis, applications of technology to language teaching, and teacher
development, among other possibilities.

Successful candidates must demonstrate a clear research agenda and
record of relevant publications.  Preferred candidates will also have
experience teaching ESL/EAP, demonstrated ability to teach graduate
courses, and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple
audiences.
