We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: semantic role lexicon for English verbs

Dear Linguists

Does anyone know of a publicly available lexicon of English verbal
argument structure, including the semantic (aka thematic aka theta)
roles for each argument? I'm using COMLEX for the syntax of argument
structure, but have been unable to find anything similar for
semantics.

Regards, Brian

Subject: British Speakers of English are needed as Subjects

Dear British Community,

In order to carry out a research for my Ph.D. dissertation on a
cross-cultural study of 2 speech acts on Persian and English, I
desperately need 30 male and 30 female subjects who would be kind
enough to fill out a 24 item open-ended questionnaire which should not
take more than half an hour. I cannot possibly go to an
English-speaking country and the person supposed to help me has
failed. I sincerely appreciate your kind participation in this
terrible predicament.

Yours truly, Niloufar
Yarmohammadi
