Dear Colleagues:
The dates for the 5th Macedonian-North American Conference on
Macedonian Studies at Ohio State University next May have now been
settled upon. The conference will run from THURSDAY MAY 1, 2003 -
SUNDAY MAY 4, 2003. Please take note of these dates, and feel free to
pass word of this conference on to anyone else you think might be
interested.
The announcement for the conference sent out earlier is repeated
below, with the dates indicated. So far there has been a good level
of interest shown by North American colleagues (and please note the
broad definition of "North American" here -- by birth, citizenship, or
current affiliation) though we hope for more.

ANNOUNCING:
The 5th Macedonian-North American Conference on Macedonian Studies to
be held THURSDAY MAY 1, 2003 - SUNDAY MAY 4, 2003, hosted by the Ohio
State University, in Columbus, Ohio.
This conference brings together scholars in the humanities and social
sciences from the United States, Canada and the Republic of Macedonia
to report on and discuss their research on Macedonian topics. For
this conference, papers are being sought primarily in linguistics but
topics in literature, history, and anthropology are also of interest
and are solicited.
The conference proceedings will be published in some form, most likely
as an issue of Ohio State University Working Papers in Slavic Studies.
Featured speakers are:
Zuzana Topolinska, Macedonian Academy of Sciences
Horace G. Lunt, Harvard University
If you are interested, and are a North American scholar (by birth, by
citizenship, or by current affiliation), please send a brief
expression of interest by JULY 15, 2002, with your name, affiliation,
mailing address, and e-mail address, and a tentative title for your
proposed paper by regular mail to:

The conference will also include an invited SPECIAL SESSION on
non-configurationality in memory of Ken Hale with the following
speakers:

SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS:
Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations (plus 10 minutes of
discussion) on any aspects of theoretical linguistics. Abstracts are
also invited for a poster session (please specify if you want your
abstract to be considered for either the poster session or talk, or
for both). No abstracts will be accepted for the special session.
Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per
author.
All abstracts should be submitted electronically online at
http://linguistics-philosophy.mit.edu/nels/submit.php or sent by
e-mail as attachments to nels-cfp at mit.edu, specifying 'Abstract' in
the subject line, and including the following information in the body
of the message:
- author's name(s)
- title of abstract
- area of linguistics (syntax, phonology, etc.)
- affiliation
- e-mail address and contact during the summer (if different)
- whether the abstract is to be considered for the poster session/talk
only, or for both
(If, for any reason, you are unable to submit the abstract online or
electronically, please contact the organizers.)
Abstracts should be anonymous and be either in .txt (preferable) or
.pdf formats. Please, DO NOT submit Word documents. For help with
converting documents to .pdf formats, please consult the submissions
website. The organizers cannot be held responsible for problems
arising from clashes of hardware and software; please embed fonts in
any files you send and/or avoid the use of non-standard
fonts. Abstracts should be limited to one page (using 1" margins on
all sides and 11pt font size) with an optional additional page
containing examples and references. The deadline for submission of
abstracts is July 1, 2002.
