Subject: SYNTAX IN THE SCHOOLS- Call for Papers

Syntax in the Schools is the quarterly journal of the NCTE's Assembly
for the Teaching of English Grammar (ATEG). Seeking to foster
discussion and analysis of the teaching of English grammar at all
grade levels K-16, we solicit articles which describe, analyze and/or
critique any and all aspects of the teaching of grammar in our
schools. For example, we encourage treatments of:

              * classroom practices in the teaching of grammar
              * traditional vs. linguistic approaches to grammar
              * why and how grammar should or should not be taught
              * how we handle language varieties in the classroom
              * teacher education and the teaching of grammar
              * the integration of grammar with writing, literature, etc.

On these matters, we welcome articles, reports from the schools and
from teacher education programs, as well as book reviews, textbook
evaluations, etc. Any submissions should be applied in nature, with
teachers (K-16) as primary audience.

Submissions should conform to MLA style and should not exceed 3,500
words. All submissions will be reviewed by two anonymous
referees. Both hard copy and disk copy should be submitted; all
graphics (including charts, tables, figures, etc.) should be submitted
as separate TIFF files.

Direct all submissions to
