SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
In the last ten years the Minimalist Program has increasingly become
more influential in syntactic research. The deepening of this theory
has been accompanied by a parallel extension of its empirical
basis. Also in the last ten years the field of Greek Syntax has been
expanding fast. There are increasingly more ambitious publications in
mainstream journals as well as other activities (annual and biannual
conferences, two journals, Glossologia and the newly launched Journal
of Greek Linguistics, etc.) revealing this dynamism. We are therefore
at the point where a workshop on Greek Syntax examined within the
framework of Minimalism is both possible and desirable.  It is hoped
that the results will shed light on some thorny problems of Greek
Syntax and will provide a testing ground for the theory's claims and
predictions.

Guidelines for submission of abstracts:
Abstracts are invited for thirty-minute talks (with an additional ten
minutes for discussion) in areas of Greek Syntax within a Minimalist
perspective. Abstracts should be no longer than two pages including
references and examples, with margins of at least 1-inch, letter size
12.  Submissions are limited to either one individual or one joint
abstract per author. Please provide 2 copies of the abstract
containing title, author's name, affiliation, and email address. A
separate card should contain the title of the paper, author's name,
affiliation, address, telephone number, and email address. Electronic
submissions (as a Word document attachment) are encouraged. Selected
papers will be published in a special volume.

Announcement and call for papers

On 11, 12 en 13 10 December 2002 the Fryske Akademy (Frisian Academy)
organises the fifteenth Frysk filologekongres (Frisian Philologists
Congress) at Ljouwert. The programme of the congress is as
follows. Each day begins with a plenary lecture followed by parallel
sessions.

Topics to be dealt with at the congress are in the fields of Frisian
linguistics (and sociolinguistics), sociology of language and
literature and history of civilization. Papers that are relevant from
a comparative point of view are welcome too. Frisian should be
understood to mean the Frisian language and the (Frisian) dialects as
spoken in the Dutch Province of Friesland as well as the Frisian
language as spoken in Germany (North and East Friesland).

This time three themes will be highlighted: research into spoken
language (special attention will be given to the Corpus of Spoken
Frisian), the genre of biography (centred around the making of a
biography of the nineteenth century author and linguist Joast Hiddes
Halbertsma) and, finally, the historico-cultural theme of
falsifications (special attention will be given to the Oera
Linda-boek).

The congress committee invites submission of abstracts for papers
(approximately 250 words). Abstracts must be received by April 15.

Paper presentations wil be 20 minutes (followed by a 10 minute
discussion). Authors will be notified of acceptance after March 15. A
selection of the papers will be published in the proceedings, edited
by the congress committee.

The congress languages are: Frisian, Dutch, English and German.

The congress is in Ljouwert/Leeuwarden at It Aljemint, the conference
centre of the Fryske Akademy.

The congress fee will be $70 for the entire congress or $30 for one
day (incl. congress documentation, coffee/tea and lunch). Participants
are exempt from paying a fee on the day they read a paper and
travelling expenses for that particular day will be reimbursed. The
congress is free for students. On Thursday, December 12, there will be
a congress dinner, the costs of which are $30.
