The Department of Translation and Philology at Universitat Pompeu
Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain, offers a research position in
Computational Linguistics and Machine Translation within the "Ramon y
Cajal" program.

Ramon y Cajal is a program sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of
Science and Technology (MCYT) the aim of which is to attract
international researchers to Spanish universities and other research
centres for an initial period of four years. The application and
selection processes are handled directly by MCYT. Applicants must have
a PhD, present a high-level research program and obtain the
endorsement of the research unit they wish to join. Applications are
reviewed by specific committees in each field. The position in the
Department of Translation and Philology will be filled by the
department-endorsed candidate that obtains the highest mark in the
MCYT-rum evaluation.

The Department of Translation and Philology at UPF is looking for a
researcher in Computational Linguistics and Machine Translation who is
able to:
- lead projects in the area of grammar development and parsing
- to program practical applications
- lead discussions of state-of-the art research in the field
- interact both with linguists and computer scientists in a truly
interdisciplinary research context
- supervise PhD students
- keep a balance between basic and applied research

The Department of Translation and Philology participates in "The
Communication Station", a major research initiative at UPF in the area
of Coomunication and Technology, in collaboration with faculty in the
Departments of Computer Science and Audiovisual Studies.

The successful candidate is also expected to participate in the
graduate and undegraduate programs in the area of language and
multilingual communication in which the Department of Translation and
Philology is involved.

The Department will endorse only those candidates with suitable research
profiles.
