Position: Full-time ESL Instructor (non-tenure-track, annually
renewable, with probationary period)

Contract dates: August 1, 2002 - July 31, 2003 (Note: Preferred
starting date: July 15th.

Preferred first day of classes: July 30th.  Days worked before the
August 1st contract start date will be paid by stipend.)

Program: The University offers ESL programs of various length and
intensity in 2002 - 2003.

Classes are offered for 45 weeks during this 12-month period. Each
class consists of 10 to 16 students.

Responsibilities: The candidates hired will teach ESL courses at
different levels and in various skills for adult, undergraduate and
high school students from Japan. They must be present in school 8:50
a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the days they have classes (4 days a week and
teach a maximum of 11 ninety-minute classes per week (16 and a half
class-contact hours in total) for 45 weeks.

Other responsibilities include office hours, developing curriculum,
promoting and realizing the university mission and program objectives
(especially related to Peace Education), preparing for classes,
proposing and planning educational field trips and activities,
escorting students on field trips, mentoring of graduate students in
the TESOL program, placement testing, committee work, administrative
and faculty meetings, and other related duties. Occasional weekend
work may also be necessary.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have native or native-like
proficiency in English, an MA (minimum) in TESOL or closely related
field, and 3 years of full-time teaching experience in ESL/EFL.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching
overseas and expertise in the following area(s): Peace Education,
English for Academic Purposes, Computer Assisted Language Learning,
Applications from candidates with background in student counseling
and/or student activities are most welcome.

Salary and benefits: $35,000 - 40,000 based on qualifications and
experience; Medical/Dental/Eye Care & Life Insurance and Pension Plan
with TIAA-CREF or Valic

Location: 40 minutes from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX);
near Malibu; beautiful natural surroundings
