textes touristiques (guides touristiques, brochures, publicites, etc.)
feministes, etc.

Langues du colloque : francais et anglais.

Avec la participation de : Carmen Rosa Caldas-Coulthard (Universite de
Birmingham, Grande-Bretagne), Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni (Universite
de Lyon, France), Mariagraza Margarito (Universite de Turin, Italie),
Sophie Moirand (Universite de Paris 3, France)

			Invitation au Voyage
Construction of the Self and of the Other in Tourist Discourse
University of Cyprus, Nicosia, 11-12 October 2002

The University of Cyprus and the University of Geneva organize a
two-day conference on the construction of identity and discourse in
all kinds of tourist texts (tourist guides, leaflets, advertisements
etc.). The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars from
different theoretical traditions and cultures for a close discourse
analysis of a specialized genre that is gaining importance in the
post-modern world. Central issues to be investigated are the
construction of the Other in tourist texts such as stereotyping,
polyphony, etc. This is a call for papers for a small number of
specialists. Topics may include any discourse analytic approach to
tourist texts, gender and tourism, post-colonial or other approaches,
in all cases from a linguistic perspective.

Working languages: French and English.

Main Speakers: Carmen Rosa Caldas-Coulthard (University of Birmingham,
UK), Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni (University of Lyon, France),
Mariagrazia Margarito (University of Turin), Sophie Moirand
(University of Paris 3, France).

If you are interested in participating, please send a 200 word
abstract by the end of June and/or other suggestions to all members of
the Organizing Committee (by electronic mail):
