 ==========================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, at the
Lago Maggiore in Northern Italy, is inviting applications for grants
at post-doc level (Ph.D. or 4+ years post-graduate research
experience) in a variety of fields, including Language
Technology. Deadline for applications is 15 June 2002 (post stamp).

Applications by women and by citizens of any of the following
countries are particularly welcome: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia,
Slovenia.

You find information on the conditions for the research fellowships,
as well as the application form, on the main JRC web page
http://www.jrc.it and on the pages of the Institute for the Protection
and Security of the Citizen (IPSC): http://ipsc.jrc.it (click on
'Opportunities').

The monthly grant is in the range of 3300 to 5000 Euros. The maximum
grant duration is 24 months. Before applying, make sure that you match
the eligibility criteria, especially those regarding the nationality
and the age of the applicants.

Instead of filling in section 3.1 of the application form
("Description of the Research Project"), it is sufficient to explain
how you feel your interests and skills fit our goals. The JRC's
Language Technology activities are summarised at
http://www.jrc.it/langtech .
