The deadline for submissions to the CONFERENCE ON METAPHOR IN LANGUAGE
AND THOUGHT is fast approaching: 30 May 2002. Please check our website

We invite abstracts on all topics related to the conference theme, including:

typology of metaphor in language;
metaphor and electronic corpus analysis;
metaphor identification and processing;
interaction between metaphor in language and metaphor in thought;
metaphor & discourse;
metaphor, cognition and culture;
metaphor, semantics and pragmatics.

The conference will be held from 21-25 OCTOBER 2002 at the CATHOLIC
UNIVERSITY OF SAO PAULO, SAO PAULO, BRAZIL

ConSole XI
Second call for papers

The eleventh meeting of the Student Organization of Linguistics in
Europe (ConSole) will be held at the University of Padua, Italy, from
4 until 6 December 2002.

The invited speaker at this year's conference will be prof. Guglielmo
Cinque, from the University of Venice.

SOLE aims at providing students of generative linguistics with a
possibility of gaining international experience and a publication
forum of their own. Furthermore, SOLE strives to enhance contacts and
cooperation between students of generative linguistics in Europe and
around the world.

Papers are solicited from students in ALL fields of generative
linguistics, including but not limited to phonology, morphology,
semantics, pragmatics, phonetics, sign language, language acquisition
and syntax. We will aim for a balanced program.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS: Abstracts must be written in English and
should not exceed two pages, including data, references and
diagrams. Abstracts should be typed in at least 11-point font, with
one-inch margins (letter-size; 8"1/2 by 11" or A4). Abstracts must be
anonymous. Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint
abstract per author.

We strongly encourage electronic submissions. Send name, affiliation,
e-mail, mailing address, and title of the paper in the body of the
message.  The anonymous abstract should be sent as an attachment in
one of the following formats: pdf, rtf, Microsoft Word (2000 or
earlier), or plain text. For any unusual fonts, please attach the font
file (Macintosh only).

Postal submissions must include 6 copies of an anonymous abstract and
an index card (3'' by 5'') including the author, title, and contact
information as above. Submissions by fax will not be accepted.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS:
        August 1, 2002

        September, 2002
