The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Research Scientist Language Modelling / ASR / Real-time Development

Unique opportunity to work at the leading edge of research and
development within natural language speech recognition and be based in
the centre of London, UK.

Exciting opportunities for scientists contributing to the design &
development of a new class of natural language speech recognition
solutions. This role will be part of an international team working
towards the production of a true natural language and mixed-initiative
Virtual Personal Assistant. The VPA will embody conversational
interaction, incorporating multi-modal input and output in a mobile
device with access to agenda, email and contacts and the potential for
rapid integration of other Internet content. The development of
current and new research is required to generate adequate language
recognition models for non-trivial domains and the fusion of
multi-modal information with updated databases (to feed a mobile 3G
service). The project deploys new research in natural language
understanding, specifically: (1) Sophisticated dialogue management
that adapts to the experience and style of the user; and (2) An
advanced language model capable of integrating and unifying several
models of linguistic knowledge.
