Description:

ESL or Applied Linguistics, Assistant Professor,
Tenure-Track. (F02/03-82) To teach, research and serve in an English
as a Second Language program.  Successful candidate will have
experience and knowledge working with ELL at the public school level.
Minimum qualifications.  Ph.D. in ESL or Applied Linguistics,
Bilingual Education/ESL or closely related field by Fall, 2003.
Experience teaching ESL/ELL in various environments, including public
schools and knowledge of Spanish are preferred.

Faculty teach courses in TESL, descriptive linguistics, language
development and ESL pedagogy.  We are looking for a college who has
training and/or experience in areas related to helping non-English
speaking public school students acquire English language skills and
have experience developing new programs and curricula for such
students.  The department is expanding its reach into public education
of the Rio Grande Valley and expects to train public school teachers
in the Rio Grande Valley whose focus is to teach children/adolescents
ESL.

The Department of English has two dynamic graduate programs, and
M.A. in English and a Master of Arts in English as a second language.
The department is developing an MA with a concentration in Rhetoric
and Composition and plans new M.F.A. and Ph.D. programs.  The
University of Texas-Pan American serves the Rio Grande Valley, enrolls
14,000 students and is a member of the University of Texas System.
