Description:

The World Languages & Hispanics Literatures Department at California
State University, San Marcos, seeks to hire a full-time, tenure track
professor in the field of Spanish beginning Fall 2003.  This position
is at the Assistant Professor level. The department invites
applications from generalists with an expertise in one or more of the
following areas:

* Spanish for native/heritage speakers
* Latin American cultures/literatures (especially Central American
or Caribbean)
* Applied Linguistics
* Spanish for the professions,
* Ability and willingness to teach basic French, German, or
Japanese

The successful candidate can expect to teach a range of courses at the
lower and upper-division, as well as graduate levels. We particularly
encourage applications from candidates with interdisciplinary teaching
interests willing to contribute to the university's General Education
core.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or strong evidence of completion by
August 2003. They should demonstrate evidence of successful teaching
in the language, literatures, and/or cultures of the Spanish-speaking
world, and a commitment to the teacher-scholar model of post-secondary
education. Successful candidates will also demonstrate potential for
developing an active research agenda in his/her area of
specialization. Also highly desirable is a demonstrated willingness to
work with technology-based instruction.

Deadline for applications is November 15, 2002, or until the position
is filled. Applicants must submit letter of interest, curriculum
vitae, a sample of scholarly work, three letters of recommendation,
sample student or teaching supervisor evaluations, and transcripts.
