We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

I'm interested in locating resources for the process of child
acquisition of Creole (English-based or otherwise) in a household
where at least the mother's native tongue is not Creole. I would like
to see, for example, what errors such a child may make in both the
mother tongue and the Creole. Please e-mail me with any suggested
articles or books. Thank you! Kristin

Subject: some information on 'other'

Hello,

I am looking for some information into the linguistic usage of the
word 'other'. I am trying to represent a particular sentence in a
semantic network and I was wondering whether there were any linguistic
references that have anything relevant to say on this matter.

The sentence is of the form: x and other y yield z. What I want the
network to infer is that either x is a y or x and y are members of the
same class.

In other words, we have a np followed by other np do the same thing.

Please send me some references if possible.
