The 27th Penn Linguistics Colloquium:  Call for Papers

The 27th Annual Penn Linguistics Colloquium is scheduled for Friday
through Sunday, February 21 through 23, 2003 at the University of
Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia.

Invited Speaker: Manfred Krifka of Humboldt University in Berlin

Papers on any topic in linguistics and associated fields are
welcome. Speakers will have twenty minutes for their presentations and
five minutes for discussion and questions.

Prospective speakers are invited to submit their abstracts
electronically by filling out the online form. The form will accept
papers in the DOC, RTF, HTML, PS, DVI, PDF, and TXT
formats. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee correct font outputs for
RTF or DOC. Abstracts should be no longer than 2 pages in 12-point
font with 1-inch margins. Please do not include your name or
affiliation in the abstracts themselves. The online form will be
available on November 1st. Please check the conference website,
http://www.ling.upenn.edu/Events/PLC for further updates. In
principle, you can also email your abstracts to plc27 at ling.upenn.edu,
although webform submissions are greatly preferred. The deadline for
abstract submission is Sunday, December 8, 2002. Notification of
acceptance/rejection should be expected by Tuesday, January 21, 2003.

Conference proceedings will be published as a volume of the Penn
Working Papers in Linguistics. Selected participants will be expected
to provide camera-ready copies of their papers after the
Colloquium. Please refer to the Working Papers website for further
information.

Following on from the highly successful First Symposium of Hispanic
Linguistics held at the University of Guildford, the Second Symposium
of Hispanic Linguistics will be held in 2004 at the University of
Southampton, where it is also intended to launch a new association
entitled Spanish in Society (SIS).	
	
Researchers are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 300 words
on either theoretical and/or empirical research in the following
areas: hispanic sociolinguistics, pragmatics or discourse
analysis. Contrastive/comparative studies, whether between varieties
of Spanish or between Spanish and other languages, together with
studies in the aforementioned areas applied to the teaching of Spanish
as a foreign language, will also be accepted.
