Vacancy A199-02

The Department of Applied Language Studies is one of the largest
departments in the Faculty of Arts. The department offers
undergraduate programmes in linguistics, ESOL, and English language
teaching, and graduate programmes in Linguistics and Applied Language
Studies. Through the Linguistics section the Department has strong
interdisciplinary programmes in Logic and Computation, and Speech
Science, and has links with a number of language departments. The
department currently has a staff of sixteen, and this chair, newly
created, complements the two existing chairs, both in Applied Language
Studies.

Candidates for this chair must have a PhD and a strong publication
record. Their area of research should be Cognitive Linguistics
(including but not exclusively: language structure,
grammaticalization, language and cognition, computation, language
acquisition, language processing). Strong applications from candidates
with specialisms other than those listed above may also be
considered. In addition an interest in Austronesian or East Asian
Languages will be an advantage.
