We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Hi,

I've been unsuccessfully trying to locate a paper or two which I came
across ages ago. In these studies (as far as I can recollect), the
experimenters induced perception of fricatives by replacing the
target positions with white(?) noise and induced perception of stops
when the target position was replaced by a silent pause.

Thanks in advance,
Gina

A few years ago, under the sponsorship of the LSA, a website was
created to provide information about jobs outside of academia. I have
been asked to work on this site to improve its usefulness. To that
end, I would like to ask the opinions of Linguist List readers.

If you have used the site, could you let me know what was most useful
and what you thought could be improved?

If you haven't used the site, could you visit it and offer your
opinion? (http://www.lsadc.org/web2/jobsfr.htm)

Thanks,

Susan Steele
