Description:

Educational Testing Service has a senior-level Research Scientist
opening in the Natural Language Processing Group in the Center for
Assessment Design and Scoring.  The Center, part of the Research &
Development Division, conducts research on the integration of
psychometrics, cognitive science and technology with the goal of
enhancing the scientific and societal value of assessments.  This
position involves the conceptualization and research of algorithms,
processes, or systems using natural language methods to assist in the
creation and analysis of test content (e.g., the automatic creation of
test questions and the automatic analysis of test questions to
characterize their difficulty).  The work also involves the ability to
apply scientific, technical and software engineering skills in
designing and conducting natural language processing research studies
and in developing and contributing to the development of new products
or services for education.

A doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or a
highly related field, and evidence of independent substantive research
experience are required.  The successful candidate is expected to
contribute to the application of natural language processing in the
development of educational assessment products in a multidisciplinary
environment.  The supervision of a small number of staff may be
required.
