We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: abbreviation list

I am looking for a list of abbreviations and acronyms available in the
Internet for English, German and French. The resources are crucial for
the research of name entity recognition in various languages and for
the investigation of the interesting patterns of abbreviations and
acronyms.

If somebody knows for such lists, please let me know.
I will send the summary to the Linguist List.
Thanks in advance.

Subject: Re: Information on "Tamang" Language

Is anyone involved in the "tamang" language in any form ?
Has anyone come over this language and is interested in this language ?
Does anyone know about the materials that exist about this language ?
(If yes what and where can I get them ?)

Tamang is spoken in Nepal by the tribes called tamang. Other names for
it are Tamongobo and Tama. There are many dialects depending on in
which part of Nepal the language is spoken. The dialects differ mostly
in pronunciations and the speed of spoken language. This language is
endangered because the young people prefer to speak Nepali than
Tamang. In my own family, my younger brother understands the language
but cannot speak fluently and both my youngest sisters do not
understand the language.

I would be interested in hearing form someone who is working in this
language, or someone who would like to begin such research.

 	Thank you.

 	Best Regards
 	Karma Tamang
