The Department of English Philology is seeking to appoint a professor
(C3) of English Philology/Linguistic Pragmatics from 1st April,
2003. If the appointment is made after 30.09.2003, it should be noted
that remuneration will be according to the scale W2 BBesO.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of research in the
theoretical and formal foundations of Linguistic Pragmatics. Over and
above her or his research specialisation, the successful candidate's
teaching will cover cultural aspects of language use (especially
American English) and language change.

The successful candidate will fulfil the prerequisites for appointment
as a professor as laid down in § 25 of the Lower Saxony University Law
(Nds. GVBl 2002, p.2 86). Details will be elucidated if requested.

The University of Göttingen is seeking to increase the proportion of
women on the academic staff and would encourage women to apply. Within
the legal possibilities, equally well qualified women will be given
preferential consideration. It may be possible to provide a part-time
appointment. The University would welcome applications from disabled
candidates, who will be given preferential treatment when the
successful candidate is selected.
