We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject: Threshold Hypothesis

I am working on a MA thesis about Jim Cummins and his influential
threshold hypothesis in relation to the notion of semilingualism of
migrant children which still seems to be of interest in the field of
bilingual education. I am interested in recent (past three years or
so) studies on Cummins' hypothesis - either confirming his framework
and conclusions or rejecting it. Until now, I am aware of the critical
work of J. MacSwan, A. Hawson and M. Takakuwa. Did I miss some
important critics? And is anybody aware of recent research confirming
the threshold hypothesis? I'd also be interested in studies or
research being done on this topic in a specific German context. Thanks
a lot and of course, I'll post a summary.
