The post is within the Department of Romance Languages and
Cultures. The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen has a
vacancy for the post of Professor of Romance Linguistics. This chair
has been created within the Faculty fast-track regulation and,
therefore, the current professor and his successor will operate in
tandem until 1 January 2005. The aim of the Faculty fast-track
regulation is to enable young talent to join or move through the
system faster. Candidates may not be older than 45 years of age - that
is, they may not have turned 46 on 1 January of the year following
their appointment.

Professor of Romance Linguistics VACANCY NUMBER 203122/2731

The discipline covers Romance linguistics in the widest possible
sense. The professor will be responsible for and must contribute to
the teaching and the research within the scope of the department. The
professor appointed should preferably work in the field of Romance
Linguistics but must be experienced in the field of French
Linguistics. He or she must be a specialist in one or more of the
approaches to linguistics.

The position involves co-ordinating and providing teaching in the
field of Romance Linguistics; co-ordinating and performing research in
the field of Romance Linguistics; supervising PhD candidates; performing
administrative and organisational duties; and deepening and promoting the
national and international contacts of the department.

Profile: We are looking for candidates who will provide enthusiastic
leadership to a team which keeps a close watch on the newest
developments in the fields of teaching, politics and culture.

Interested parties must fulfil the following conditions:
  - be no older than 45 years of age (see above)
  - have a PhD in the field of Romance Linguistics
  - be an experienced lecturer with extensive research experience in
    the field of Romance Linguistics, with specific expertise in the
    field of French Linguistics.
  - have good administrative and organisational skills
  - be able to promote interest in the field
  - be prepared to move to the Groningen area.

The RUG is offering a full-time appointment as Full Professor (A) from
1 September 2003. The salary will be EUR 4,428 - EUR 6,462 per month
gross (Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities).
