September 9-10, 2003
Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International
Keihanna Science City, Kyoto, Japan

ATR Media Information Science Laboratories and ATR Intelligent
Robotics and Communication Laboratories are pleased to hold an ''ATR
workshop on Ubiquitous Experience Media (UEM2003)''. The purpose of
the workshop is to have an opportunity to exchange research results
and to foster ideas in the emerging field of ubiquitous media
technologies with the goal of enhancing and enriching human shared
experiences.

In what degree and in what form is it possible to capture the quality
of human experiences in terms of the emerging ubiquitous media
technologies? What are the mechanisms of the sharing of human
experiences, and what technologies are required to enhance and support
it? Do robots and other autonomous artifacts create new areas of
experiences? What changes do ubiquitous media technologies bring
about on our everyday lives, both in business and at home, for adults
and for children? These are some of the central questions to be
addressed by the workshop.

The workshop will consist of a plenary lecture sessio n and five topic
sessions: Interaction Media, Networked Robotics, Sensing and Display,
Human communication, and Learning Environment. The program includes
invited talks by prominent researchers from around the world as well
as presentations of on-goi ng research at ATR laboratories.

We would like to extend our cordial invitation to participate in the
workshop to everyone who is interested in this exciting new field.
