Second announcement for 1st International Conference on Critical
Discourse Analysis which will be celebrated in València, 5-8/05/2004

Critical Discourse Analysis has proved to be one of the most
interesting and fascinating fields of linguistic endeavour in the last
few years as it relates directly to society and history. This field of
study is wide-ranging and impinges on a large number of important
issues in our society. The International Conference on Critical
Discourse Analysis has been divided thematically into four main areas:
1) mass media and the formation of public opinion; 2) the construction
of social and cultural entities through discourse; 3) social change,
institutional discourse and the discourse of education; 4) ideology in
visual and musical discourse.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We are pleased to invite researchers to present papers on themes
directly related to critical discourse analysis applied to any
language. Papers will last 20 minutes with five minutes for
discussion.

Those interested should send three paper copies of the abstract and an
electronic copy (either a floppy disk or in RTF format by electronic
mail to angels.campos at uv.es) before the 15th of December 2003. The
text should follow the following guidelines:

* Paper size: DIN-A4
* Font: Times New Roman 12
* Margins: 3 cm. on all four sides
* Title of the paper in bold print
* The body of the abstract should not exceed 30 lines, including a
brief bibliography.

Moreover, on a separate page please include the following information:

* Name and surname of the author(s)
* Title of the paper
* Full postal address
* Electronic address or fax number

CONFERENCE LANGUAGES

The conference languages will be English, Spanish, Catalan and
French. However, the committee will consider papers in other European
languages.

SCHEDULE

December 15 2003: deadline for the presentation of paper proposals.
March 1 2004: notification of acceptance or not of paper proposals.


CONFERENCE FEES

Enrolment will be done through the UIMP from February onwards. Anybody
who wishes to enrol prior to that date, may do so addressing
lcliment at fil.uji.es, filling out the attached form.

Portugal, in April 5, 6, 7 2004, organised by the Faculdade de Letras
da Universidade do Porto.

SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

The 14th Colloquium on Generative Grammar will be held in Porto,
Portugal, in April 5, 6, 7 2004, organised by the Faculdade de Letras
da Universidade do Porto.

Abstracts are invited in all areas of Generative Grammar.  The
Colloquium will consist of talks of 30 minutes each plus discussion
(10 minutes). The official languages of the 14th Colloquium on
Generative Grammar are English and any Romance language.

Abstracts should be anonymous and may not exceed 2 pages (A4),
including examples and references, with 2,54 cm. (1 inch) margin on
all four sides and should employ a font Times New Roman 12
pt. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one
joint abstract per author.

Abstracts should be sent ELECTRONICALLY as Word or RTF attachments to
the following e-mail address:

Please send a separate file containing the following information:
title, author's name, affiliation and e-mail address.
