Meeting Description:

The XIIth International Conference on Turkish Linguistics will be held
at Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir between 11-13 August 2004. Three
types of presentations which can be either in English or in Turkish
are welcome to the conference:

*Individual papers in the general session

Individual papers or co-authored papers can be presented. The time
allotment for each paper is 20 minutes for the presentation and 10
minutes for the follow-up discussion.

*Workshops

Workshops will aim at discussing specific topics in depth and
detail. The workshop organizer who is expected to invite the
participants will select a topic and work dealing with related aspects
of the topic. The time allotted to each workshop will be 1-2
hours. The organizer will submit a general abstract for the workshop
together with the abstracts of individual presentations.

*Poster sessions

Poster presentations will aim at providing information about work in
progress and/or research results.

Submission of Abstracts

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is January 16, 2004. Each
participant can submit two abstracts at most: one individual, one
jointly-authored. This is a limitation for all types of
submissions. Please fill in the related form of abstract enclosed in
the first circular and write a brief summary of the paper proposal not
exceeding 250 words. The summary will include information about the
topic, the research methodology, the database and a relevant
bibliography. The font type should be 10 points Times New Roman
type. The abstracts will be evaluated by a committee whose names will
be kept confidential. Six copies of abstracts should be sent; five
anonymous and one with the authorâEuro(tm)s name. Please take care not
to reveal the identity of the author(s) in the anonymous abstracts.

The proposals posted electronically should be sent as either a RTF
Word Document or as a PDF file. Please do not send your proposal in
the body of your e-mail message.

Participation

Please complete the registration form and send it by fax or
mail. Electronic registration is also possible through our conference
website at http://www.deu.edu.tr/ictl2004 Please visit the website at
regular intervals for up-to-date information about the conference.

Fee

The registration fee for the conference is 75 Euro or its equivalent in
TL for research assitants and 100 Euro or its equivalent in TL for other
participants paid before April 16th and 125 Euro or its equivalent in TL
after this date. The fee covers expenses for participation, opening
reception, lunches and conference booklet. The receipt of payment
should be sent to the organizers. There should be a note indicating
that the payment is made 'for conference fee.'

The second circular will be sent to those whose registration forms are
received by the organizers by February 9, 2004 Information about the
accommodation and further details about the conference will be
announced in the second circular.

Developmental Paths in Phonological Acquisition Developmental Paths in
Phonological Acquisition

CALL FOR PAPERS

The University of Leiden Centre for Linguistics (ULCL) will host a
three-day conference on phonological acquisition (L1, L2 and
bilingual) between 16 and 18 September 2004. The topic of the
conference is âEuro~developmental pathsâEuro(tm). We are interested in
intra- and inter-child variation, and specifically we wish to shed
light on the different strategies that different children (or one and
the same child) follow in the acquisition of its native language or of
a second language. Prof. Dr. M.M. Vihman (University of Wales, Bangor)
has kindly accepted to be our invited speaker.

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute talks (which will be followed by
10 minutes of discussion). Abstracts may not exceed two pages,
including data, figures, and references (12 pt font, 1 inch margins
all round). The deadline for submission is April 8, 2004.  Abstract
submission by e-mail to one of the organizers is preferred (PDF
only). Presenters will be notified by the end of May and the final
program will be announced before the end of June. Selected papers of
the conference will be published.
