Associate Professor (UHD) in Communication Studies

Vacancy number: 203280

The teaching part of the position falls under the Department of
Communication and Information Sciences (CIW). The research part falls
under the research institute Centre for Language and Cognition
Groningen (CLCG).

The position involves
- contributing in a stimulating and coordinating way to the Bachelor's
  and Master's degree programs in Communication and Information
  Sciences
- coordinating and being responsible for realizing communication
  studies research concerning existing and new special research
  interests
- acquiring financial resources for research
- acting as joint supervisor for PhD students
- performing administrative and organisational duties.

Profile
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who
- have an outstanding academic reputation, as demonstrated by a PhD
  and publications in international academic journals
- are experienced teachers with extensive research experience in the
  field of one of the current linguistic approaches to communication
  science and in one or more of the following fields of application,
  namely organisational communication, media and computer
  communication and/or intercultural communication
- are preferably able to use the above expertise to develop links with
  other areas of linguistic research, particularly semantics, corpus
  linguistics, psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics
- can work in a team and have an eye for group formation
- have good administrative and organisational skills
- have proven skills in the acquisition of research funds
- speak English fluently
- are prepared to move to the Groningen area.

Offer
The University of Groningen is offering a salary based on
qualifications and experience of between 4236 Euros and 5400 Euros
(scale 14) gross per month for a full-time position (Collective Labour
Agreement (CAO) for Dutch universities). The appointment will be for a
probationary period of two years, with the prospect of appointment for
an indefinite period. There will be a job performance appraisal after
the first year.

It is our policy to provide didactic training to everyone who is
involved in teaching. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis
with appointees. If the appointee does not speak Dutch, he or she will
be expected to learn to speak and read Dutch within two years.

The Faculty of Arts is seeking to increase the number of women in
academic positions.

Starting date: preferably 1 August 2004.
