There's a piece in the technology section of the New York Times
online, dated December 11, 2003, that reports on a new system for
reducing noise in hearing aids, based on the structure of a fly's
hearing mechanism. This should have implications for all kinds of
speech-related applications, e.g.  speech recognition, recording field
data, and so on. The article is entitled:
