Lisbon Workshop on Agreement

The status of agreement is a core issue in morphological and syntactic
theory. Universidade Nova de Lisboa hosts the Lisbon Workshop on
Agreement aiming at discussing the following issues:

i) What is the relation between syntax and morphology in determining
agreement relations?

ii) Which (if any) syntactic configurations are relevant for
determining agreement?

iii) How relevant is verbal agreement for the purposes of EPP?

iv) Are there connections between verbal and DP-internal agreement?

v) How are person, number and gender agreement to be distinguished
both morphologically and syntactically?

vi) Do AGREE and Spec,head relations trigger different agreement
effects? If so, why?

vii) What type of relation is there between head-movement and
morphological agreement?

Papers are invited for 20 minute talks, followed by a 10 minute
discussion.  Abstracts must meet be sent anonymously as an RTF
attachment, not exceeding 2 A4 pages (Times New Roman 12pt) including
examples and references, to the following email address:

Meeting Description:

On behalf of the Nordic Association of Linguistics (NAL), the
Department of General Linguistics, University of Helsinki, will host
the 20th Scandinavian Conference of Linguistics. The conference will
be held January 7-9, 2004 (three full days), on the downtown premises
of the University of Helsinki. Preliminary announcement 20th
Scandinavian Conference of Linguistics, Helsinki, 7-9 January, 2004

The program will contain plenary sessions, workshops, and general
sessions. Submissions on all aspects of general linguistics are
invited.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE
Abstracts should be submitted no later than August 31, 2003, and they
will be reviewed anonymously. Notification of acceptance will be
announced by September 30, 2003. Proposals for workshops should be
submitted no later than May 31, 2003.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT
Send your abstract of maximally 400 words in plain text format (no
tables or charts) in the body (not as an attachment) of an email
message to the conference email address.

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT AND REGISTRATION
The second announcement including a list of speakers and workshops
will be dispatched by September 30, 2003. Please indicate your
interest in obtaining this announcement by sending an email message to
the conference email address. Conference registration starts on
October 1, 2003.

FINAL PROGRAM AND ABSTRACTS OF ACCEPTED PAPERS
Downloadable by October 30, 2003.
