In this technical session we are interested in the combined issues of
learning and agent and multi-agent systems (LAMS) focusing on theories
and models as well as on applied work and interesting domains. We
particularly welcome papers that approach the LAMS-related issues from
different perspectives e.g. connectionist (neural networks) learning,
sub-symbolic (genetic) learning, reinforcement learning, case-based
learning, fuzzy learning, etc. Survey articles are also welcome.

The 2003 International Conference on Machine Learning; Models,
Technologies and Applications (MLMTA'03) will be held in Las Vegas,
Nevada, June 23 - 26, 2003. The MLMTA'03 Conference will be held
simultaneously (ie, same location and dates) with a number of other
international conferences and workshops (CISST'03, IC-AI'03, IC'03,
METMBS'03, CIC'03, ...)
The last set of conferences had research contributions from 72
countries (the event held in Las Vegas had over 1,550 participants
from all over the world.) It is hoped that MLMTA'03 will also have a
strong international flavor.
Technical Session on Agent and Multi-Agent Learning

An agent is a computational entity that interacts with one
or more counterparts or real-world systems with many key
features to varying degrees such as: (a) autonomy,
(b) reactiveness, (c) pro-activeness, (d) social abilities,
(e) mobility, etc. An agent may also be learning (adaptive),
in which case the agent is able to adapt its behavioral
patterns to the behavior of other agents or objects,
and consequently transform its responses to external and
internal stimuli as well.
Several agents can collectively form a multi-agent system with
decentralized data and a varying degree of global system control
(potentially none at all). Learning in such systems is a challenging
issue.
In this technical session we are interested in the combined issues of

While considered by many to be one of the more interesting approaches
to the development and implementation of large complex systems, LAMS
are still controversial. There are those who view them as just a fad
that in the long run will not be able to bring a significant
breakthrough in the development of large complex systems. We look
forward to well developed contrary points of view.

Submission Guidelines

Original papers from the above-mentioned or other related areas will
be considered. Submit your paper (about 5 pages - single space, font
size of 10 to 12) by E-mail to Mohamed Salah Hamdi ( MHamdi at uaeu.ac.ae
). Papers must be submitted in either PDF, postscript, or MS Word
format.
The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to
7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have been previously published
or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The first page of
the draft paper should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation,
postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, & Fax number for
each author. The first page should also include the name of the author
who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) & a maximum of 5
keywords.
Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, &
soundness. Each paper will be refereed by two researchers in the
topical area. The Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by one person.
The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN) in
hardcopy/book. The proceedings will be available at the
conference. Some accepted papers will also be considered for journal
publication(soon after the conference). (In addition to the hardcopy,
it is also planned to publish the papers on a CD.) All conference
proceedings published by CSREA Press are considered for inclusion in
major database indexes that are designed to provide easy access to the
current literature of the sciences (database examples: ISI Thomson
Scientific, IEE INSPEC, ...).

IATL 19, the 19th annual meeting of the Israel Association for
Theoretical Linguistics, will be held at Ben-Gurion University of the

invited for papers presenting high quality, previously unpublished
research in all areas of theoretical linguistics, including Language
Acquisition, Language Disorders, Psycho- and Neurolinguistics. IATL
publishes on-line proceedings in which all accepted and alternate
papers appear.
