Meeting Description:

The 6th PROPOR - Workshop on Computational Processing of the
Portuguese Language - Written and Spoken, to be held in the University
of the Algarve, Faro, Portugal, June 26-27, 2003 addresses the
scientific community involved in the computational processing of
Portuguese - written and spoken.

This PROPOR Workshop follows previous workshops held in 1993 (Evora,
Portugal), 1996 (Curitiba, Brazil), 1998 (Porto Alegre, Brazil), 1999
(Evora, Portugal) and 2000 (Atibaia-SP, Brazil).

This edition will have as satellite-workshop the AVALON ' 2003 -
Workshop for Evaluation Campaigns for Portuguese, also to be held in
the University of the Algarve, Faro, Portugal, June 28, 2003 We invite
the scientific community to submit original and unpublished research
on aspects of Computational Processing of Portuguese, including, but
not limited to:

  Linguistic, mathematical and psychological models of language
  Pragmatics, discourse, semantics, syntax and the lexicon
  Phonetics, phonology and morphology
  Terminology
  Understanding and generating spoken and written language
  Summarization and information extraction
  Natural language interfaces and dialogue systems
  Machine learning for natural language
  Speech production and perception
  Speech analysis, processing and feature estimation
  Speaker authentication
  Speech coding and transmission
  Multi-lingual processing, machine translation and translation aids
  Tools and resources
  Evaluation
  Applications
  Education


We invite the scientific community to submit papers reporting original
and completed, rather than intended work on all fields of
Computational Processing of Portuguese. Wherever appropriate, concrete
evaluation results should be included. Preference will be given to
papers that may contribute in a significant way to the development of
the domain. Further details can be found on the Workshop web-site.

We also invite people and institutions of NLP industries to
participate in the Workshop and to benefit from this forum where the
most recent applications can be presented.

February 3, 2003 - Papers' submission
March 3, 2003     - Notification of accepted papers
March 31, 2003    - Submission of final (camera-ready) version of the
papers
June 26, 2003      - The Workshop begins
