We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Hello,

I am working on the Master's degree dealing with heavy and light
verbs. Is there a list of light verbs out there somewhere that has
been compiled? I can't seem to find one. K. T.

Dear Linguistlist subscribers,

We are searching for any literature on differences between perceived
linguistic competence (i.e. self-evaluated) and actual linguistic
competence (as evaluated by others). While is seems to make sense
that there should be a considerable body of literature on this issue,
we have been able to locate very little.

Can anyone suggest anything?

We will, of course, post a summary of the findings.

Best,
